BACKGROUND & PROTOTYPE
Due to wartime restrictions, new build locomotives were off the cards. The Thompson Class O1 were a rebuild of the LNER Class O4 “ROD” and were rebuilt between 1944 and 1949 sporting Wartime Black Livery. Designed for heavy haulage work of minerals and metal ores between mines and shipping docks. Unfortunately, all locomotives were scrapped and none have survived for preservation.
