Hornby R3667 Class 2721 0-6-0PT '2779' in GWR Green, RailRoad Range
The GWR Class 2721 is a type of 0-6-0 saddle tank steam locomotive designed by William Dean and built at Swindon Works between 1897 and 1901. This class weren't a new design, but a small improvement from its earlier class (1854). Common with the GWR Pannier Tank, new designs weren't common. Instead, gradual improvements were made which reflected very little change to its overall appearance.
A total of 80 class 2721 locomotives were built, with 43 making there way into British Railways ownership in 1948. Withdrawals began in 1945 and were completed in 1950, by which time replacements of class 57xx's took over service.
